An outstanding season for boys and girls Trinity basketball continues to progress. This is the second year in a row where the boys and girls basketball teams took home the District gold in the same year. Both programs also won the Mid-Penn Conference Tournament, beating two 6A schools to do so. Each team worked extremely hard to win the District Titles. The girls are currently 24-2, while the boys are 22-3.
In the Mid-Penn Tournament the girls won a hard fought 46-42 overtime game against the Cumberland Valley Eagles. The boys took down the Chambersburg Trojans with a strong fourth quarter to win the game, 47-38. In the District tournament it got even better.
The girls repeated as District 3A champions with a 44-33 win against Delone Catholic. They previously beat Delone Catholic 51-40. The Rocks controlled the game all the way to the end. They had a great defensive performance which set the tone. Trinity was led by senior Sunshine McCrae who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Kassidy Ingram had 12 points and 7 rebounds.
The boys earned their sixth district championship in a row by easily defeating rival Camp Hill, 72-52. Only three basketball teams in District 3 have won six straight District titles. You can now add the Shamrocks to that list with another District title win.
Junior guard Aley Zangari had a team high with 20 points. Zangari went 4 for 5 in the 4th quarter. Freshman guard Chance Westry added 18 points, while senior Patrick Walker chipped in 13 points. Trinity attacked the glass all game finishing with 46 rebounds as a team.
“It feels good to win another one we worked hard as a team to get back here,” said senior center Kalen Veres.
The basketball teams are representing Trinity very well. The school wishes them luck in the PIAA State tournament. Both teams will be the number one seed in the District 3 PIAA tournament and are expected to make a big run. Go Rocks!
