As a freshman, I was very excited but nervous to join the cross country team, and I had been going back and forth over the decision for several weeks before I finally emailed Coach Pushart. Being on the team, however, has been the best experience I’ve had at Trinity so far. The first couple weeks were a little difficult, as I had never participated in the sport before; I had run long distance during the track season, but there’s a huge difference between a mile and a 5k. Soon enough, though, I was ready to tackle the season and was ecstatic to run the races.
The workouts were tough, but everyone on the team was encouraging and made me feel welcome. I began to look forward to going to practice everyday at school; running was a nice way to end my school day . In rain, wind, and scorching heat, we ran, and we all improved with our training and teamwork,
We had a lot of good races this season, but bottom line: every single person on the team got better. We had several awards at districts and one runner even got to states. I’ve developed a love for the sport, and I can’t wait to run on the team again next year!
